MERAH PUTIH

Merah Putih: Independence Day

Every country has its own independence day like America, its on July 4th. For us Indonesians, we celebrate Independence day on August 17th. On this day, we pay respects to our past heroes who fought for Indonesia and pay respects to our flag, Sang Saka Merah Putih as we call it. We pay respects in a “flag raising ceremony”.

In a flag raising ceremony, we have officers, like ceremony master and ceremony leaders. We follow certain steps or procedures in this ceremony. We are required to sing our national anthem, pay homage to our flag and others. After that, we play traditional games! We have Lomba Makan Krupuk, Memasukan Pensil dalam Botol and Tarik Tambang. Before, on 1945, saying Merdeka which means independence was actually forbidden and the consequences was shot on spot. So, they kept the fun by having these games mentioned.

We follow the order of the ceremony from the Japanese,  because back than, the Japanese people colonieses Indonesia for 3 years, they have helped us in many things; transportations and other stuffs, but we also suffered the most with their rodi which means us Indonesians were forced to work without pay and many died, especially in rodi train projects.

During the past, Indonesia has had many events which eventually led to Indonesia’s independence. Including the famous event Peristiwa Rengasengklok. Its usually taking quite a long time for the ceremony and is usually happening in the morning.

That seems to be it then. Thank you and make sure to visit us more!

Tigers in Haiku

Tigers in a haiku

Stripes all over the body
Lives in the scary forest

Long claws and sharp looks
-Shania A.-

Sleepy animal
Is called a tiger that roars
Towards other prey
His terrific eyes
Gazes human horribly
Just in a second

Tired tiger
Laying down on the forest
     Resting safe and sound

Resting and yawning alone
Patiently waiting

Welcome Letter 2014

Welcome to school year 2014-2015!

So did you enjoy your class so far? If yes, THINK AGAIN! During this year, everything has changed. From teachers to students from friends to best friends. BUT! Your worst nightmare is about to happen. Get yourself prepared! There’ll be no more assistants and no mercy from teachers. There will be tons of homework and project and activity.

In grade 7, we learnt that you must excel in not only academics, but also in international competitions and etc. but! Do not falter! We have experienced it before and things will pass soon. Just keep your mind on the goal which is being successful. Keep cool and stay focused. And most importantly, respect everybody. Grade 7 is very extreme compared to grade 6. Even though its extreme, there are actually more holidays than grade 6.

There is also a thing to look forward to. It’s the CSW in grade 7. If in grade 6 you went to Yogyakarta, in grade 7 it’s way further. You’ll be going further away from your homeland. Find it out later! You’ll also meet the Mentari Cipete students and have fun and enjoy with them.

If in grade 6 you are allowed to wear crocs, not in grade 7. There also won’t be much decorations in your class. Us grade 8 had a horrible past putting tons of decor, and the school had to re-cement the class! Grade 7 also doesn’t have any couches or sofas or carpets or rugs.

Be careful, some of your friends might be bad influence. They will try to make you fall and bully you somehow. So be careful when choosing your friends and be wary of your surroundings.

So…….Good luck with your grade 7 life! And remember: “respect everybody and be thankful for everything!”
